The OCR A Level in Computer Science will encourage learners to be inspired, motivated and challenged by following a broad, coherent, practical, satisfying and worthwhile course of study. It will provide insight into, and experience of how computer science works, stimulating learners’ curiosity and encouraging them to Engage with computer science in their everyday lives and to make informed choices about further study or career choices.
This qualification will enable students to develop an understanding of and ability to apply the fundamental principles and concepts of computer science including; abstraction, decomposition, logic, algorithms and data representation . It will also help students to develop the ability to analyse problems in computational terms through practical experience of solving such problems including writing programs to do so. The course will Also enhance our students’ capacity for thinking creatively, innovatively, analytically, logically and critically.
For those wishing to progress to higher education, Computer Science is rapidly becoming a very popular Degree programme. AS/A level Computer Science provides a good foundation to students who wish to study at this level or move onto an apprenticeship.
