Course Summary
Subject: Drama & Theatre Studies
Course Title: A Level - Drama & Theatre Studies
Course Types: Sixth Form
Course Level: A-Level
Course Description
This course aims to provide students with skills using team work, to improve their confidence in their own individual acting ,directing or design skills, to develop the ability to explain ideas and to apply them in a practical context.
The A Level course has a 30% practical element, comprising of performance marks based on the pieces performed during the course and on the Practical Assessment days. Specifically the performances are of a Practitioner applied to an extract from texts in performance AND to the creation and delivery of a devised piece in performance too.
The other 70% is based on written coursework, based on performance and on a written exam, the 2 set texts studied and reviews of plays seen live. The texts are allowed in the exam room so the exam is not a test of memory of content studied, instead the examiners are looking for the expression of ideas on the performance of texts and the analysis of production elements used to bring texts from pager to stage. As such, the study of texts is from the perspective of an actor, director, designer or technician so the whole programme of study is from this practical standpoint. It is a very enjoyable, varied, imaginative and creative course.
