Course Description
Photography is one of the newer courses offered by the Department of Art and Applied Design. Students will develop an ability to explore elements of visual language, line, form, colour, pattern and texture in the context of photography. You will gain an appreciation of viewpoint, composition, aperture, depth of field, shutter speed and movement. Students must demonstrate appropriate use of the camera, lenses, filters and lighting for work in the chosen area of study. You will be taught how to use post-production techniques, such as Photoshop, in order to enhance your work and explore visual elements inspired by the work of others . This course is aimed at students who want to explore the creative aspects of photography through digital manipulation. You may work with visiting practitioners or visit galleries or other places of interest to support your studies.
It also offers a logical progression from GCSE as the assessment objectives, structure and titles are very similar to those specified in the AQA GCSE Art and Design specification.
