Course Description
Students will develop an awareness of the elements of textile design, such as shape, line, scale, colour, texture, pattern, contrast and/or repetition. Students must be able to respond to an issue, concept or idea, working to a brief and realising your intentions. During the course, you will experience a variety of textile methods, which could include: fabric printing, mono-printing, relief printing, screen printing , tie-dye and batik; spraying and transfer; fabric construction; stitching, appliqué, patchwork, padding, quilting and embroidery. You may work with visiting practitioners or visit galleries or other places of interest to support your studies.
You will learn to respond to a range of starting points, exploring ideas and producing innovative solutions. This course is designed for students who want to expand their textiles skills in a lively, creative atmosphere. It also offers a logical progression from GCSE as the assessment objectives, structure and titles are very similar to those specified in the AQA GCSE Art and Design specification.
