Course Description
The primary purpose of these qualifications is to recognise development of employability skills and/or knowledge. The qualifications aim to encourage new entrants to the sector and contribute to filling skills gap in the labour market. The qualifications have been developed to support you if you are interested in gaining practical experience in the construction industry and will introduce you all aspects of the construction sector and encourage progression through the development of skills, knowledge and understanding.

What are the Progression Opportunities?
This qualification provides a mechanism for you to recognise and develop your skills and establish personal, learning and employment goals.
You may choose to progress onto a higher level employability qualification, including:
- Open Awards Level 2 Award/Certificate/Diploma in Construction and Building Crafts (RQF)
At the same time, a level 1 qualification can be your passport to other types of learning, for example:
- An Apprenticeship. This is a programme that combines practical training in a job with study. They are available in all types of sectors, from administration to horticulture, engineering to catering. All apprentices must take either Functional Skills English at Level 2 or GCSE English as part of their studies. This qualification provides a mechanism for you to recognise and develop your skills and establish personal, learning and employment goals.

You will be required to complete a portfolio of evidence to achieve this qualification. Types of evidence included in your portfolio could include:
- Videos/photographs
- Reflective journals
- Questions/answers
- Worksheets
- Recorded discussions with your tutor
Course Entry Guidelines
This qualification is suitable for learners aged 14+. There are no specific prior achievements required. However, evidence of achievement at Level 1 may be an advantage. There are no restrictions on learner entry and it may be studied alongside other vocational qualifications.
